Meaning: To review or continue learning something you’ve studied before. Often used with “on.”

Examples:

I need to brush up on my Spanish before I go to Mexico.

It’s a good idea to brush up on your English before you return to classes next week.

It’s been a long time since I’ve played the guitar, so I’d better brush up before the concert.

If you’re going to brush up on your grammar, what will you probably do?

A.  You’ll take out your grammar book from last year and re-read the information.

B.  You’ll do some grammar exercises and check your answers afterwards.

C.  You’ll speak with somebody else in English and ask them to correct your mistakes.
