Can you name that round building in the middle? Happy Lunar New Year! This is a big holiday celebrated in many countries across Asia and also in East Asian communities in the United States and UK. Countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan enjoy huge celebrations with parades, performances, confetti, and street parties. Did you see any Lunar New Year celebrations in NYC this weekend? Thank you to the reps of @assurancewireless that visited our school this week to help our students enroll in the Federal Lifeline Assistant Program. Through this program our participants were able to get a free phone with unlimited high-speed data, unlimited texts and minutes. This will definitely support the studies of our English learners! New Year is usually considered a time for a fresh start. What are your plans for 2023? Leave a comment below ⬇️ This week our high intermediate and advanced daytime and evening students received the visit of our partner Washington Heights Workforce1 Career Center. They learned about Workforce1 services, became members, and were taught how to build an effective resume. From your friends at University Settlement Adult Literacy Program, we wish you all a warm and healthy holidays. We look forward to seeing you again resuming your English language studies in January! Last night our evening students celebrated with a holiday dinner, played games, and shared with each other the traditions in their native countries. Happy Holidays from the Adult Literacy Program! Daytime teachers and students laughing and having a great time together during our holiday celebrations! Enjoy the winter break and we will see all of you again in January! Celebrating holidays in the classroom is fun and exciting, also very educational and culturally valuable for everyone, especially in a diverse community like ours! Happy Holidays to all of our wonderful daytime teachers and students!
