Idiom of the Week: Rise and Shine

After a brief summer vacation, our Idioms of the Week are back!

Meaning: Get up! Wake up!

Examples:

Time for school! Rise and shine!

He was still asleep, so his dad shook his shoulder and shouted, “Rise and shine!”

Rise and shine, honey! Our flight leaves at ten so we need to get up right now!

What’s the opposite of “Rise and shine“?

A.  Good night.

B.  Good morning.

The correct answer is A. You say “Good night” to someone when they’re going to bed, so the opposite would be something you say to someone when they’re getting up in the morning, which is “Rise and shine!
