Idiom of the Week: Paint the Town Red

Meaning: To go out and have a very good time, usually at a bar, restaurant, or nightclub (or all three).

Examples:

My old high school friend’s coming to visit, so this weekend we’re going to go out and paint the town red.

I don’t feel like painting the town red tonight because I think I’m getting sick.

He’s getting old and can’t paint the town red like he used to.

Pop Quiz:

You’re going to paint the town red if you plan to…

A. go dancing with a big group of friends.

C. go for a run in the park.
