Meaning: Someone who gets up early or likes to get up early; the opposite of “night owl.” It comes from the saying “The early catches the worm.”

Examples:

My mom’s a night owl, but my dad’s an early bird. I guess opposites really do attract.

I always feel so tired in the morning. I’m not much of an early bird.

Teaching is a good job for early birds. You can get up early, teach your classes, then finish work earlier in the day.
