Our classes for the new school year are filling up, but there’s still a little space left! Please tell your friends, family, and coworkers! More information is below – just click on the documents for a bigger view:

The New York Times is considered to be one of the best newspapers in the United States. It has great stories about New York City, of course, but it also has excellent articles about world news. And now it has many of its stories in Chinese. If you’re studying English with us, you should of course first try reading the articles in English – but then if you need to you can check the Chinese versions. Click the picture above or click here to read the New York Times in Chinese.
From the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development:
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with paid summer employment for up to six weeks in July and August. Participants work in a variety of entry-level jobs including:
- Government Agencies
- Hospitals
- Summer Camps
- Non-Profits
- Small Businesses
- Law Firms
- Museums
- Sports Enterprises
- Retail Organizations
SYEP also provides workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy and opportunities to continue education and social growth.
Programs are located in community-based organizations in all five boroughs of New York City. Youth can apply for the program online or at a community-based organization during the application period. Participants are selected by lottery for the program.
Specialized programming for disabled, foster care, runaway/homeless and court-involved youth are also available.
All daytime, elective, and evening classes on Tuesday, January 27 here at the University Settlement Adult Literacy Program are cancelled due to snow.
On Wednesday, if New York City Public Schools are closed, we will be closed – and if they’re open, we’ll be open.
