Awesome Adjective: Ripe

Meaning: Describing fruit that’s ready to eat.

Those mangoes are still green. They’re not ripe yet.

I know the peaches are hard, but they should be ripe in a couple of days.

Fruit that isn’t ripe usually tastes sour.

Meaning: To have allergies; usually used with “to,” as in “allergic to something”

Examples: 

My nephew’s allergic to peanuts, so don’t give him a peanut butter sandwich.

At the hospital, they always ask you if you’re allergic to any medication.

She has a rash. Maybe it’s an allergic reaction.
