Pictures from a Vigil

Today University Settlement staff members attended a vigil on the Lower East Side to protest against the separation of families at the border. The vigil was coordinated by Families Belong Together.

Familiesย Belongย Together includes nearly 250 organizations representing Americans from all backgrounds who have joined together to fightย familyย separation and promote dignity, unity, and compassion for all children andย families.ย 

Led by the National Domestic Workers Alliance, Womenโ€™s Refugee Commission, MomsRising, FWD.us, United We Dream, Peopleโ€™s Action, ACLU, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, MoveOn and others,ย the coalition has raised millions of dollars for immigrant children andย families, mobilized hundreds of thousands of people in all 50 states to take action, and helped to reunite thousands ofย families.ย 

Familiesย Belongย Together continues its work to permanently endย familyย separation and detention, seek accountability for the harm thatโ€™s been done, and immediately reunite allย familiesย who remain torn apart.ย

Sunset Park Community Career Expo – Saturday, June 8th, 11AM-3PM at PS1 at 309 47th Street, Brooklyn

The event is open to all community members. Through a combination of workshops, career panels, and tabling throughout the day, it is aiming to provide community members with information about workforce development programs, workers rights, and job opportunities. This fair is designed specifically for ESOL learners. Participating agencies include: MassMutual, Hot Bread Kitchen, Census Bureau, Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, UPROSE, NYU Langone Family Health Centers, Innovation Lab, LEEP Dual Language Academy, Brooklyn Rise Charter School, Make the Road NY, Center for Family Life, NY College of Technology, Atlas: DIY, Department of Citywide Administrative Services, Fifth Avenue Committee, Huang & Associates, and many more!
